Bringing Deep Democracy to Life
Enlightened decision making & governance article.Deep Democracy is seeking to notice and understand diverse perspectives, including privileged and marginalized voices.
This article is an overview of deep democracy by Amy Mindell.
Voices can be marginalized because of systemic oppression, because they are difficult to understand, because what they have to say is uncomfortable to hear, or because they are associated with the non-human or with non-ordinary states of consciousness. Some groups of humans are known to be systemically marginalized, others are so systemically marginalized that they're missing from our mental or written lists of marginalized groups.
Deep Democracy invites everyone to share the responsibility for listening to marginalized voices with respect and empathy, honouring the wisdom in diversity. It offers hope for ways living that are more sustainable than peace and more exciting than war.
