BerkShares

Serving the Berkshire Region, BerkShares are a local currency that can be used at participating businesses in the region to keep money in local circulation. BerkShares are fully backed by US Dollars held at community banks. They are currently available in paper form, with a digital version forthcoming early in 2022. Currently, USD is exchanged for BerkShares at nine branch offices of three local banks and spent at 400 locally owned participating businesses. BerkShares inc. is the place-based, democratically structured non-profit organization that manages BerkShares, It works in collaboration with participating local banks, local businesses, and local non-profit organizations to strengthen the Berkshire regional economy.
