Alberni Valley Gleaning Project
Sustainable food organization.The Alberni Valley Gleaning Project takes un-used fruit, nuts, and vegetables and distributes them throughout the community. Apples, Plums, Pears, Walnuts, Hazelnuts, Grapes, Tomatoes, Raspberries, Blueberries, Blackberries, etc.
Fruit harvested by the volunteers is shared - 1/3 for the property owner if desired, 1/3 for the pickers, and 1/3 as a donation to charities and other organizations in need.
In 2012, the inaugural year, the program collected and put to use over 3800 pounds of fruit.
