The Anthroecology Lab
Holistic ecology organization. The Anthroecology Lab investigates the ecology and sustainable management of landscapes towards sustainable stewardship of the biosphere. The lab is directed by Erle Ellis, Professor of Geography & Environmental Systems at UMBC. The Anthroecology Lab is an interdisciplinary research group of doctoral alumni and alumni of postdoctoral researchers, graduate and undergraduate students, research associates and technical staff. As well as collaborators around the world.
Anthroecology theory explains why and how human societies gained the capacity to transform ecology across our entire planet. The theory couples the dynamics of social and ecological change through evolutionary processes acting on human cultures, ecosystems, and infrastructures. Anthroecology aims to understand the ultimate causes of anthropogenic environmental change, not just the consequences, to help shape a better future for both people and the rest of nature.
Many projects including: ArchaeoGLOBE The ArchaeoGlobe Project is a massively collaborative effort to assess archaeological knowledge on human land use across the globe over the past 10,000 years.
