Natural and human systems are more resilient to change when they include diversity.

For example, mono-culture farm crops are vulnerable to predators and disease and have deleterious long term effect on soil quality in ways that inter-planted crops do not have.

Similarly, diversity in groups of people can bring valuable perspectives and resilience that mono-culture groups lack.
